We are pleased to invite applications for our Early Career Fellowship Programme. This is an exciting opportunity to join a leading international research centre for multidisciplinary research and training on environment and health sciences.

We seek an ambitious, exceptional candidate with a PhD and experience in research on environment and health and strong quantitative skills. These fellowships aim to support the development of competitive, independent researchers, providing a platform to fulfil their long-term career goals.

You are required to produce a research proposal describing your plans to carry out an ambitious research programme in one of the Centre’s core research areas. Proposals must be relevant to the Centre’s research scope and their focus should fall within at least one of the following key areas:

  • Environmental Epidemiology and Exposure Sciences
  • Molecular Epidemiology
  • Spatial Epidemiology, including small-area and GIS
  • Biostatistics, Computational Biology and Data Science
  • Climate Change and Health

Your primary mentor (see below) must be an MRC Centre member based at the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, however multidisciplinary cross-Centre proposals are encouraged.

Duties and responsibilities

You will be responsible for the development of your independent research programme, establishing collaborations with other internal and external partners where relevant, under the supervision of your chosen mentor. You will be expected to present your work at significant conferences, publish in high-quality international peer-reviewed journals and contribute to the preparation of research grants and Fellowship proposals.

Essential requirements

You must have a PhD or equivalent, awarded prior to the fellowship start date, in one of the key areas listed above or a related field of study.

Applications will be assessed on the quality of the proposal, on the candidate’s standing as demonstrated by the extent to which they meet the personal criteria in the job description, and on their potential to develop an independent research career.

Further Information

This is a full time, fixed-term post for 24 months. The salary range (£40,858 – £48,340) is fixed so applicants should ensure it meets their experience and expectations. Full salary costs are provided as well as appropriate research expenses.

You will be based at Imperial College London in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics.

You must select at least one primary mentor among the MRC Centre members in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics and mentorship must be agreed upon prior to submitting your application. You are strongly encouraged to contact potential mentors as early as possible to discuss and develop your research proposal.
