The Researchers' Society

The Researchers’ Society is led by Early Career Researchers (ECRs) and PhD students. It originally began as a society within the MRC Centre for Environment and Health (MRC-CEH) and our membership has now expanded to include ECRs and PhD students beyond the MRC-CEH by invitation only. The Researchers’ Society operates independently, with the primary aim of promoting the welfare and career development of its researchers and PhD students focused on environmental research and sustainability.

Our Logo

To better align the values and activities of The Researchers’ Society, we have updated our logo to reflect the three key themes of the society: training and progress, social connections and networking, and environmental research and sustainability. Each symbol has been kept simple yet easily recognisable: two people communicating to represent the society’s networking activities, a person climbing up stairs to symbolise progress and training opportunities, and a profile with a plant in the brain to signify the ever-present focus on environmental research and sustainability.

Building on the initial design, we have used vibrant colours to evoke creativity and innovation while aligning with themes of environmental and health protection research. Our goal is to create a modern, visually striking, and memorable logo while maintaining a clean and professional aesthetic. Expanding on this idea, we have incorporated repeating colours within the symbols and circles to emphasise collaboration and interconnectedness, reinforcing themes of unity and partnership.

The Researchers' Society Committee

The organisation of the Researchers' Society is conducted by The Researchers' Society Committee. Membership of the Committee is open to all members who attend Committee meetings and show an active interest in the running of the society.

The Researchers' Society has a representative on the MRC Centre’s Executive Committee, as a full member, thereby ensuring that the needs of the students and early-career researchers can be presented to the key decision makers.
